Frequently asked questions

Should I repair or rescreen?

For a few torn panels on otherwise healthy mesh, repair. If the screen is 10+ years old, discolored, or fasteners need replacing, HomeGuide says a full rescreen is often cheaper overall.

How much does it cost?

HomeGuide: small repairs $200 to $600; full rescreen $1,200 to $3,500 or $0.75 to $1.50 per sq ft; panels $25 to $65 each. See our cost guide.

How long does a rescreen last?

HomeGuide says a maintained pool enclosure lasts 10 to 20 years. Cheap screen can wear out in 3 to 4 years.

What's the standard pool screen mesh?

18/14 (or Super Screen's 17/14). No-see-um mesh is 20/20 (or 17/20).

Do I need a permit?

Ask your city's building department. As a Broward example, the City of Hollywood allows screen-fabric repair without a permit but requires one for metal repair or replacement.

Is my enclosure covered by insurance?

HomeGuide says enclosures aren't covered by default but coverage can be added, often in $10,000 increments, and some policies cover framing but not screen.

How do I prepare for hurricane season?

Check tie-down cables before and after storms, replace rusty fasteners, trim overhanging trees and secure furniture.
